That New Car Smell; Intuition Never Fails

follow-your-intuition

One day when I was about 27, my, then boyfriend wanted to go car shopping;  Lets “just look” he said, “For fun.”  As he lived with me and didn’t have a cent to his name, we shared a car, my car. At the time the suggestion was made I had a sick feeling in my stomach.  I hesitantly agreed and we proceeded to  visit a car lot.  On the lot ‘looking’ at rather expensive rigs my significant other was foaming at the mouth.  I personally didn’t have much interest,  as I wasn’t particularly into cars and have never been one of those people who cared much about looking ‘cool’ or being ‘in’.  Of course after about an hour of ‘just looking’ my boyfriend was test driving and I started to get nervous.  Before I knew it ‘we’ were in the finance office with my boyfriend more than happy to sign on the dotted line but there was a catch; his credit was so bad he couldn’t even be on the loan with a co-signer.  My credit was good and suddenly they wanted to put everything in my name.  The sales manager assured me we could “move everything into his name in a year, no problem.” (this was a bold faced lie).  All I really remember from that day was the pressure on all sides: my dishonest boyfriend, the dishonest sales man and the dishonest sales manager.  I said at least 3 times, “Let’s go home, I want to think about this first.”  And every reply was, “Oh no, you won’t need to do that we can get this worked out today.”  As though they were modern day heroes and I had a problem they were going to selflessly fix.

2 years later I had gotten rid of the boyfriend and voluntarily had the vehicle repossessed as I stood in bankruptcy court awaiting a decision about my naiveté.   You may think I’m going to tell you I was duped; well I was definitely lied to.  You might think I’m going to cry foul and say I was a victim of other people’s broken moral compass.  I was wronged!!!  Right?  But the truth is, I was responsible, because every step of the way, from the boyfriend moving in and needing help to pay his many obligations to the fated day at the car lot, never once was I truly fooled.  I didn’t know any of the specific details, which I found out later, however I didn’t need too, I knew something was wrong.  I wasn’t told, ‘Proceed with caution’ I was told, ‘Do not proceed!’ very clearly in the pit of my stomach.  I knew not to move forward on each step of the way, yet I allowed my intuition to be overridden by others’ selfish interests.   Plain and simple, I didn’t trust myself.

I’m not trying to say I have all the answers.   I, like everyone else, develop theories based on my experience and observation.  12 years later I can look back and see, I truly wasn’t let down by God or duped by anyone, all the information was there, I just didn’t listen.  I believe some call this, ‘denial.’ I didn’t trust myself and in my want to be looked after, I deferred to those that wanted to take advantage.  As miserable as that experience was it led to a lot of good.  10 years ago I became a spiritual minister and I also became a loan officer, and eventually a manger, for a credit union.  I put all of that so-called ‘bad’ experience to work educating others on making smart financial decisions and following their intuitive sense as to whether or not something is a fit for them .  Now as a Spiritual Mentor,  I coach people on listening to themselves and heeding the messages they are given.  Not to mention I am a ten times happier and more confident person.  I gleaned a lot from that humiliating experience and there is no point wasting energy by regretting it.

Life is messy at times and it operates on a trial and error system.  I believe all of these messy experiences are opportunities, to not only get to know ourselves, but also to mold ourselves.  I was a better person after I went through bankruptcy.   Would I recommend it?   No way!!  Did it have to happen?   Not at all, but it did.  The truth is I serve others better now that I have had that experience.  I also listen to myself and rely upon my internal compass.   That alone has made life so much more inspiring and enjoyable.

Co-Creation at Its Best

Co-Creation at Its Best

In continuing with the creative thread touched on in my last blog,  today I would like to look at the importance of co-creation.  Many clients, in their pursuit of living from their spiritual foundation, feel that surrender, or marrying their will to God’s, means surrendering all of their decision making power as well as surrendering all their desires, as though God has prescripted  each of our lives and is off stage delivering dialog to us line by line.  I wish to challenge this and plant the seed that co-creation with the Divine is what propels our creativity forward.  It wouldn’t be creative if we didn’t lift the brush to canvas and see what comes through us to paint.  In the co-creative process when we are inspired to paint, say a garden, then we give the divine a channel in which to come through, like tuning a radio.  If we become overly focused on ignoring what inspires us and waiting for Spirit to just plop a purpose in our lap, suppressing what bring us joy, we are missing an important step.   That is, Spirit creates through us by inspiring us.  What inspires us is the direction that we seek.   The point is it’s in the doing,  the acting upon  inspiration that we allow the creative force to be channeled through us, that we tune to its frequency.  Contrary to a procrastinator’s belief, you won’t get more information on how to proceed until you engage, until you act upon the initial inspiration or spark.  This is co-creation, “Spirit this makes me feel good, it makes me feel free.  I wish to have more of that feeling.”  So pursue that feeling and be open to Spirit leading you to an even better feeling in your pursuit.  Once you set that partnership in motion the possibilities are limitless.  Actually the possibilities were always limitless.  Once you actively engage with the Divinity within you, somehow an energy is activated that reveals the mass potentiality as possible.   In this process we begin to believe before we can see which gives the Divine a clear channel, frequency, to create our heart desire through us.

“Follow Your Bliss;” The Power of Creativity

Free-Abstract-Colorful-Rainbow-Vector-Background

“Follow your bliss.” When I was in my early 20’s a good friend, and somewhat of a father figure, used to remind me of this Joseph Campbell quote.  My friend is a painter and he and his wife have spent their lives passionately pursuing the art of painting.  At the time it seemed like a great idea, however reality seemed to be lurking around every corner.   At such a young age I didn’t understand how to marry passion and purpose with responsibility.  My creative passion was for spirituality, not religion per se, though I loved to study varied religious thought.   I was aware that spirituality was universal and completely inclusive and non-exclusionary.  I pursued my passion with varying fervor at different times of my life.  By my mid thirties I found that the road to hell just might be paved with good intentions, because I had spend a lot of time thinking about my passion and purpose and very little time pursuing it.  Again I felt being responsible was about ‘creating’ security: having a steady career, owning a home, walking the dog.  What I missed was that the urge to create is its own life force.  When you spend your life painting by number you never allow the true artist to emerge.  Painting by number is great if you want to keep things neat, tidy and looking right, but I soon realized that life would be far more enjoyable if I let myself paint with different colors outside of the lines.

Now as a spiritual minister and mentor,  I see very clearly within my life, the life of my clients and many others that we are creations who are made to create.  It does not matter who you are, where you are from, what religion you practice or do not practice, we are all unified in our need to self-express.  Self expression brings with it freedom unlike anything you could ever purchase with money.  It is its own power.  I have worked with many people who long to share who they are and what they have to give, because it is freeing to evolve, extend and share yourself through creation.  We think life is about getting what we want:  I want this job, I want this mate, I want to have children or have a book published.  It is really our desire to self-express and share what we are that drives us toward pursuit of possession or markers of arrival.  I used to think life was a series of arrivals as we linearly grow and develop; now I realize it is a culmination of blessed awarenesses as we continually evolve in all areas of life.  Our ever unfolding awareness led to new actions, this is what gives richness and purpose to our lives.   I believe, as many do, that we are all in essence one.  We are all extensions of an all encompassing energy that is known by many different names.  This Infinite Intelligence is expressing itself through each one of us now; as mothers, fathers, artists, accountants, farmers, business owners.  Ernest Holmes, a pioneer in New Thought, said, “The Infinite has no need other than the necessity to express  Itself.”  Ernest also said, “And so we say that the life that refuses to create stagnates and dies.” That is a little dramatic, however in my experience pretty accurate.   It is this spark within each of us which propels us to create through curiosity, passion and love.  Right now while writing this I feel at peace because I know it is mine to do, it is mine to share.  The thoughts I am communicating are not original however no one can communicate them as me, except me.  It is my particular interpretation of the Divine process that may flip the ‘spark’ switch in others.

Sexual Authenticity

couple-in-bed

Sexual Authenticity is creating a genuine, loving connection.  By being present, holding an intention of becoming closer and allowing the experience to flow, we can suspend any expectation or agenda.

Being sexually authentic asks couples to be open, intimate and vulnerable.  In order to do this, we must feel safe.  What in your relationship does not make you feel safe?  Because in this safe, trust filled, space two people are able to unify and experience Oneness.  Which is what we all desire.

True intimacy is about letting go.  Letting go of fear, letting go of control.  Fears of being vulnerable and being seen as we genuinely are, cloud our ability to be present, and it mires our perception of our experience.
