“My vision is a world that works for everyone through the practice of spiritual principles.”

Reverend Dr. Kathianne Lewis has served thousands of people in her 25+ years of service as Senior Minister at the Center for Spiritual Living. She is known worldwide as a Spiritual Leader, Master Teacher and Luminary –Empowering people to live a thriving life. Her worship services, classes and retreats, both locally and internationally, are engaging, entertaining and most importantly, transformational. Having been a spiritual seeker for most of her life, she draws from the ancient wisdom of faith traditions around the world, yet always makes the Universal Spiritual Principles she presents applicable to human needs and aspirations. As a leading scholar in New Thought philosophy, she brings into harmony those teachings with the insights that ancient and contemporary religious study offer. Always, she offers practical spiritual tools for use in an often complex world. Kathianne (as she likes to be called) was ordained by the United Centers for Spiritual Living, a national New Thought denomination, and received her Doctorate of Divinity from the same in 1995.

Life’s Purpose: Inspiration!

images

Every time I hear of people looking to find their purpose in life, it always sounds so complicated, so painful, so grueling. The pressure is intense, as though if you don’t make the right decision, now, you are screwed for the rest of your life. I know I can sometimes make life much harder than it truly needs to be.

But life is so much more forgiving than this. Your purpose, everyone’s purpose, is to be inspired and to express from that inspiration. It is not a complicated concept. It is one, however, that carries much depth and a lifetime of evolution. What that means is different for each and every person, and will evolve and change as they evolve and change. How cool is that? Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to be inspired and then bring that inspiration forward in a new and unique form.

This takes the pressure off. If you aren’t inspired to save the world, you don’t have to. However, doing your part to bring your unique inspiration to the world is contributing to its overall betterment.  What a blessing; we are not all the same and we aren’t designed to be. Everyone’s inspiration matters; some are called to pray and some are called to protest. Some are called to work with numbers and some are called to work with paints. Some are called to build bridges while other are called to tear them down.

Inspiration, for some, is soft and gentle. For others it is like fireworks going off in their soul. Many have multiple outlets for inspiration. If you pay close attention, it all comes without a lot of stress or strenuous effort. Effort will be required to learn a new skill. However again, the more you can relax and allow the process, the better off you will be. Stress and strenuous effort come when you are trying to force something. Inspiration only asks you to allow it the space to emerge. This doesn’t mean you are lazy or lack investment, this means you allow inspiration to flow through you and partner with it creatively. This is the beauty of co-creation; you are contributing to the inspiration process as much as the process of inspiration is contributing to you.

If you talk to a poet, painter or song writer, they will talk about being in the flow. Though we associate the ‘flow’ with occupations which we generally consider creative, there is an art, a creativity, to any occupation or activity. Everyone can speak to finding a groove or flow to their day or their work. This is when things become effortless; they still require skill, preparation and focus; however, this is all in harmony with being present to your art or craft.

Bottom line: when it comes to your purpose in life… be inspired, be present and allow a greater you to emerge.

James Howard Bio

“Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.” This quote by Beethoven lives on the wall of James Howard’s Facebook page and provides a solid introduction to the man and his music. Howard views music as a spiritual language with potential to heal and inspire. His instrument of choice is the guitar, both acoustic and electric, where he has devoted 40 years of his life to refining a process of spontaneous composition, a type of improvisation that combines blues, jazz, European classical music and modern pop/rock.

Howard’s passionate and dexterous emotional delivery has netted him awards in blues guitar for Yamaha’s “Six String Theory Global Guitar Competition” in 2011 and with the “International Blues Competition” for the Washington Blues Society where James and his band represented the WA Blues Society in Memphis Tennessee January 2016 IBC’s.

Born in Oakland California, James has been based in Seattle Washington since 2001, channeling music and performing in a variety of different venues, one of which is “The Center For Spiritual Living” where he has been serving in the house band for past 15 years. “The James Howard Band” has been enjoying a monthly showcase gig at the award-winning Seattle waterfront night-club “The Highway 99 Blues Club” off and on since 2008.

In his music career James has opened concerts for Robin Trower and UFO among others. His diverse skills have included a concert at Benaroya Hall in Seattle where in 2012 he performed a Flamenco piece with a 25 piece orchestra. On the one hand he has played lead guitar with Tayla Lynn, the granddaughter of Country Music legend Loretta Lynn, and on the other hand, he held down the corner stone rhythm guitar role in Eckaman Gundo’s West African Soukous band. He is also a prolific studio musician with many recording credits to his name.

Howard’s unusual style includes singing into the guitar, a process of generating tone in the body and instantly transferring it to the strings of the guitar. He also practices “playing the changes”- a jazz guitar technique which involves consciously tracking the chord changes of the song with the left brain while creating fresh ideas through the right brain. In fact it is the combining of left brain and right brain functions that are the hallmark of spontaneous composition.
