Joseph Sulkowski was born in 1951 and knew from the age of five that he would be an artist. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, the oldest the art school in the U.S. founded in 1809. Afterwards, he continued his studies in the techniques of the Old Masters at the Art Students League of New York.
Joseph refers to his style of painting as “poetic realism”, an interpretive form inspired by the Natural World. The animals, figures and landscapes of the Sporting Life are subjects that continually draw his attention. His trips afield have taken him from the quail hunting plantations of south Georgia and the grouse moors of the Scottish Highlands, to the fly fishing streams of Wyoming and Colorado and the polo fields of England.
Joseph’s paintings are in public and private collections worldwide.
His work is represented by Halcyon Gallery, London,England; The Edgartown Art Gallery in Martha’s Vineyard; Trailside Galleries in Jackson Hole,WY; Marine Arts Gallery in Marblehead,MASS; Dog & Horse Gallery in Charleston, S.C. and Portraits Inc. in New York City.
